“Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.”
I heard the cat cry out “MEOW!” I turned from the flowers I was photographing to see what his malfunction was and there he was, sitting on a plastic pedestal, staring at me, in the beautiful light. He stared at me like it was his job to show me where the real light was but I’m pretty sure he upset because he couldn’t find his way through the sheers to get into the window. So I gave up on the flowers and shot the cat. Later, in post, I had to crop a bit of clutter from the frame because I knew if I moved anything he would jump down and be gone. I’ve learned the hard way that you really do have to “shoot it when you see it”, especially with kids and animals. He sat there waiting for me to open the sheers, silently threatening to shred them if I didn’t put the camera down and help him. I just bought those sheers so he wins.
